She's Gone...
Kennedy left for Girl Scout camp this morning. I don't know who was more nervous, Kennedy or myself. The hardest part for me is that I cannot speak to her for 4 days. It's gonna kill me to wait to speak to her on Friday. We made a pact that each night we would look at the brightest star in the sky and know that the other was thinking of them and that we are saying that we love
them. She added that we look at the sun and do the same.
Camp is going to be a great experience for Kennedy on many levels; making new friends, trying new things, taking care of herself and the responsibilities that go along with that (i.e. brushing teeth without being nagged by Mom and hanging up her bath towel so it doesn't get moldly) and then the whole "camping" thing. Pitching tents, building fires, hiking, climbing, etc. the list goes on and on.
I am really excited for her and so very proud of her to be doing this on her own at 8.
She acted all "cool" up until she was on the bus. Then with a look out of the window and a solemn wave, she said "good-bye" one last time. I felt like she was asking me to rescue her. I waved and said "I love you and good-bye" with tears in my eyes. My comfort is that she is in God's hands as usual. That's a good thing.
